Extendible OS X search agent targets deals on Craig’s List, Ebay & more
Friday, May 23rd, 2008Extendible OS X search agent targets deals on Craig’s List, Ebay & more - Published on 05/23/08
Black Pixel Luminance announces Agent Craig, the internet search agent for OS X Leopard. The application currently provides automated background searches for deals on Craig's List and Ebay, and can be extended to do considerably more via 3rd party plugins.
Seattle, WA - Black Pixel Luminance has released Agent Craig, an internet search agent for OS X Leopard that helps users respond quickly to new ads posted on Craig's List as well as Ebay auctions.
The software runs as a background application, providing an unobtrusive way to look out for items of interest during work or at home. Discrete pop-up messages notify the user of new results matching their search terms, and each search campaign can be customized with a distinct audio alert.
"We needed Agent Craig for ourselves and could tell early on that it was going to be a popular tool," said Dan Pasco, Black Pixel's CEO, "we look at contract gigs for our professional services group on Craig's List, but we needed a way to poll for ads instead of checking them manually. We also needed better ways to track the status of jobs we had applied for."
Users can browse search results matching their criteria, annotate results with notes for future reference, and blacklist search results deemed irrelevant to prevent them from showing up in subsequently defined search queries.
"We are excited by the potential of Agent Craig," said Black Pixel director of engineering David Brown, "The extensibility provided by the API is allowing us to take it in directions we hadn't anticipated. There is certainly more to it than meets the eye."
Although presented as a tool primarily intended for bargain hunters, the software is highly extensible via its plugin API. Black Pixel is currently working on new plugins capable of taking the application to a much broader market, and 3rd party developers can write add-ons of their own as well.
Pricing and Availability:
Agent Craig sells for $29.99 and is available for evaluation and purchase at the Black Pixel Luminance website.

Exporting OS X 10.5 Leopard Mail to Windows Vista Mail (The Easy Way)
Monday, April 21st, 2008Since we purchased a Toshiba Laptop for my Mother to use, instead of my Father’s Mac Pro (she never has seemed to grasp the OS X concept it seems). I have been battling with moving her mail from Mac back to a PC. Most write ups on the interweb have nothing to do with Vista only XP. So attempting to use these as a guide, I tried my best, only to find that Vista Mail will not import from Eudora. After countless hours and much hair pulling as well, I have an epiphany. Simply setup a Gmail account, enable IMAP, and move the mail to the Gmail servers, then download them to the Vista machine. after 5 minutes setting up the account, 10 minutes making sure I have all the mail moved to the servers , 5 minutes wondering “WTF why isn’t it seeing the server" (set the security options in the advanced tab folks) and-10 minutes pulling all the mail back to Vista Mail. We have it done, Bob’s your Uncle and all is right with the world once again, and you can finally let your hair grow back out where you were constantly pulling it out HI HI.

Very good Blog post, and a very troubling topic as well.
Edgy
Tuesday, April 15th, 2008Had a doctors appointment this morning. Discovered I have a major herniated disc in my neck, C-Spine vertebrae C5/C6 and minor bulge at C6/C7 last month. Still need to see if I can get the images of my MRI from the imaging site on a CD so I can upload the images if I want. My primary care physician deemed it necessary for me to go to a specialist. So I talked to a neurosurgeon today. After the initial exam pleasantries, we get to my MRI films. First thing out of his mouth is "Those aren't friendly" never a good sign. Seems due to the severity of my bulging/pinching therapy is not an option, I have to have surgery to fix my problem. Just hope it will actually fix the problem in one try, since I will be off work for a month, then on limited duty for another month after (I do not have any idea how to not work full tilt or take it THAT easy for a month) I mean I admit I am a lazy shit, but when I work, I WORK.. Plus all this means I am not going to be able to really work on my jeep for at least a month and not likely to be able to offroad it for couple 3 months :-s Too say I am worried, is a bit of an understatement, hell I am willing to go as far as to say I'm scared shitless, never been thru anything even coming close to this before. Keep your fingers crossed for me people, I may need it to get thru this....
